digital platform modernization

the business

a long-established special education provider had spent decades developing learning programs that help young people build social competence and prepare for life beyond school.

its curriculum was already used by thousands of schools across the united states and canada. as customer expectations and learning models became more digital, the business needed a platform that could support both its established e-commerce operation and the next stage of its e-learning strategy.

the digital brief

clarient was brought in to rethink the digital experience from customer journey through technology infrastructure.

the engagement covered ux research, e-commerce design, system architecture, development, cloud deployment and ongoing platform management. the work also extended into digital learning, helping the business prepare its curriculum and technology for a broader eLearning model.

the growth constraint

the existing platform had to do more than sell curriculum effectively.

the business needed a consistent experience across devices, a stronger commerce foundation and the flexibility to support new ways of delivering educational content. the platform also had to remain reliable as digital demand grew.

the challenge was to improve the customer journey immediately while creating the infrastructure for a very different model of learning in the future.

the platform response

clarient approached the work as a platform transformation rather than a website refresh.

research, experience design and architecture decisions were developed together so improvements to the customer journey could be supported by a stronger technical foundation.

make buying easier for schools

we began with a detailed audit of the existing customer journey and identified where navigation, product discovery and purchase created unnecessary friction. the new experience worked consistently across desktop and mobile, giving schools a clearer path from finding the right curriculum to completing a purchase.

give commerce room to grow

the e-commerce platform was rebuilt on scalable open-source technologies with cloud-native deployment. a structured ci/cd setup, responsive front end and reusable design system gave the business a stronger foundation for new products, features and future traffic growth

prepare the business for digital learning

the work extended beyond commerce into the company’s next delivery model. clarient helped define the ott e-learning approach, digitalization strategy and supporting architecture so the business could begin moving curriculum from physical products towards digital access.

the impact

clarient helped move the business from an aging commerce experience to a faster, more flexible digital platform built around both current customers and future growth.

the redesigned journey made it easier for schools to explore curriculum and complete purchases across devices. a stronger commerce architecture supported the experience behind the scenes and gave the business a more reliable base for continued expansion.

that improvement showed quickly. conversions increased by 23% within the first month of the platform relaunch.

the transformation also changed how the platform could be operated. cloud-native deployment and a complete ci/cd pipeline made releases easier to manage, while clarient provided ongoing aws infrastructure support, security updates, capacity management and feature enhancement.

regular improvement sprints allowed the platform to respond to changing customer needs without requiring another major rebuild.

the same foundation became increasingly valuable as education shifted online. clarient worked with the client to assess its courseware, define an ott e-learning model and prepare the technology needed to support digital delivery.

when covid-19 disrupted schools in 2020, that groundwork gave the business greater flexibility to respond to a sudden shift in how educational content needed to reach students and teachers.

the result was more than a stronger e-commerce platform. the client gained a digital foundation that could support how it sold, delivered and evolved its learning products as the market changed.
