Digital Platform Modernization
the platform
a global education company with a century-long history had built deep trust with institutions, educators and students.
but the way people discovered and used learning products was changing. course libraries were growing, purchasing was moving online and educators expected clearer access to student performance data.
the digital platform needed to make that shift without losing the authority and familiarity the business had built over decades.
the modernization brief
clarient was brought in to rethink the experience across e-commerce, learning and educator workflows.
the work covered ux strategy, information architecture, interface design, front-end development and the creation of a unified design system. the goal was to make a large and complex education ecosystem easier to use while giving the business a stronger foundation for continued digital growth.

the legacy friction
the strength of the business had created its own digital challenge.
a growing catalogue made courseware harder to discover. purchasing journeys carried unnecessary friction. educators needed faster ways to understand student performance, while the platform itself had to support increasing demand across markets and institutions.
modernization could not mean starting over. the experience needed to become simpler and faster while preserving the confidence users already placed in the brand.
the design response
we worked across the customer journey rather than treating commerce, learning and reporting as separate design problems.
research, journey mapping and rapid prototyping helped identify where users were losing time and where a clearer structure could make the biggest difference.
make courseware easier to find
we simplified navigation and reorganized content around the way educators looked for learning products.
clearer pathways reduced the effort required to move through large course libraries and reach relevant material.
take friction out of buying
the e-commerce journey was redesigned around the needs of educational buyers.
product information, selection and purchase were brought into a more direct flow, making it easier to move from discovery to adoption.
give educators faster access to performance
dashboards were redesigned to bring useful student information forward.
clearer data views reduced the time educators spent working through reports and made performance easier to understand at a glance.

the impact
clarient helped turn a legacy digital ecosystem into a more coherent platform for discovering, buying and using educational content.
the new experience gave educators clearer routes into a large courseware catalogue and reduced friction across the purchasing journey. learning products became easier to find, compare and adopt without stripping away the depth expected from a major education provider.
the design system brought greater consistency across the platform and gave product teams reusable patterns for future development.
educator workflows also became easier to manage. data-rich dashboards brought student performance into clearer view, helping users spend less time interpreting the system and more time acting on what they saw.

front-end modernization gave the experience a stronger technical foundation across devices while supporting the scale required by a global education business.
the results reflected the shift. user engagement increased by 45% within three months, while courseware adoption grew by 35%.
educators also spent 50% less time tracking student performance, showing that the transformation improved not only how users entered the platform, but how efficiently they could work once inside it.
the larger outcome was a digital experience that allowed an established education business to modernize without losing what had made it trusted in the first place.
